Exploring on Foot Is the Best Way to Immerse Yourself in a New City
“Oh, the places you’ll go.”
― Dr. Seuss
Walking is a wonderful way to explore a new city, town or region. Walking is free to do and is the most accessible outdoor sport out there. If you’re not making the most of your feet, then you are missing out.
Exploring by walking can be done by anyone, with no prior experience and with very little fitness. It’s easy to get started and it’s relatively safe.
Imagine the places you will discover that you would never see if in a car or other transport.
“What you can’t imagine, you can’t discover”
― Albert Einstein
Why We Walk
For those of us who already enjoy walking and exploring, there are many reasons why we do so.
- stress relief
- to immerse ourselves in nature
- to learn the history of a city
- to discover new places
- to improve our fitness
How To Walk Comfortably
Invest In Some Comfortable Shoes
If you’re planning a long day of walking, don’t wear brand-new shoes. Breaking in shoes on a long walk will be enough to deter you from walking ever again. Your shoes need to be “broken in” and comfortable.
You don’t need expensive shoes, just something with some good tread. If they are comfortable, then they will do the job.
Wear Quality Socks
Socks are also important when it comes to comfort. Nobody wants blisters or sweaty feet, so be sure to invest in good-quality socks. My faves are Marino wool blend socks. They will soak up any sweat and moisture and prevent any blisters from forming.
Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated is very important. On a hot day, you will obviously need to drink more liquids than on cooler…
